Our fellow citizens at Staten Island are still trying to dig out of the wreckage of ‘superstorm’ Sandy.

According to local citizens, FEMA packed up Tuesday, and hasn't returned.

Upwards of 4,000 people are without power on Staten Island.  Hundreds are staying in temporary shelters, where many complain they’re treated like prisoners, not able to freely come and go.  This makes it nearly impossible for them to work towards recovery.

To make matters worse, a subsequent nor'easter has savaged the area again and has left many despondent survivors to think FEMA has forgotten them.

FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate urged people in need of assistance to go to www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA (3362).

As I recall the outrage of the slow government response to Katrina, I’m shocked by the near silence of the media to this horrific tragedy.

Except for a few news outlets, this story has remained hidden from the public.
